Office of the Chief Information Officer

The primary focus of the Information Management Unit (IMU) is the strategic direction and overseeing the information management investment resident within this Ministry whilst ensuring that data is translated into information as a strategic resource. The IMU is managed by the Chief Information Officer, Mr Wilfred Spiteri. The following are the primary functions for which the IMU is responsible:
  • The formation of strategic and operational ICT plans for the Ministry which complement and contributes towards the attainment of the national ICT strategy;
  • Providing advice and support to the Permanent Secretary on Ministry strategic ICT matters;
  • Managing IT/IS support through ICT contractors and monitoring the service provided; 
  • Managing the information technology/systems within the Ministry; 
  • Managing the ICT budget and the optimisation of the IT/IS and communications resources; 
  • Identifying the IMU requirements for training needs and carrying such training as may be required;

The IMU is also involved in applying Governmental-wide policies, standards and protocols which are aimed at ensuring that IT systems are mutually compatible while Government policies and procedures are known by its staff and adhered to.
